2009 U.S. Open Golf Tournament will be One Not to Miss

U.S. Open finished this year (2008) with Woods cleaning house against Mediate, making this his third U.S. Open win.  Next years U.S. Open (2009) will be hosted by Bethpage State Park Golf Club on the Black Golf Course located in Farmingdale New York June 18–21.  The U.S. Open ran by the United States Golf Association, is one of the four major golf tournaments.  Now is the time to start considering a 2009 U.S. Open Golf package.

Held annually, the first U.S. Open was held on October 4, 1895 in Newport, Rhode Island.  Horse Rawlings, just 21 years old, walked away with the win and $150.00, a $50.00 gold medal, and his club received the Open Championship Cup trophy after beating nine other professionals and one amateur that entered.  This was the beginning of the traditional U.S. Open as we know it today.

Qualifications to enter into the U.S. Open are simple.  It is open to 156 players, male or female, professional or amateur with a current USGA handicap index not exceeding 1.4.  Some players may obtain a placement by being fully exempt, meaning they are a previous winner of the U.S. Open within the past 10 years or any of the other majors in the past 5 years.  The Top 30 from previous years PGA tour or top 15 from previous years European Tour money lists are also exempt.  Whoever had placed in the top 50 in the Official World Golf ranking are also included in the exempt category.

Non exempt players must qualify in two stages, local qualifying which is done over 18 holes at over 100 courses around the U.S. and Sectional Qualifying Stage which is played on 36 holes in one day at several sites around the U.S. and one in both Japan and Europe.  Purses vary from year to year with last year’s purse being $7 million with the winner taking home $1.26 million of that; quite profitable for a few days of playing golf.

The 2009 U.S. Open Golf Tournament will be one not to miss.  Tiger Woods will be back in full swing of all goes well with his surgery, and you can look forward to seeing other pros such as Hogan, Anderson, Jones, and many more.  2009 U.S. Open Golf Packages make it easy to plan early for the event and make sure that all needs are met so when the time rolls along you can sit back and watch as a millionaire is made. †
